The ‘Women’s Week Celebrations’ of 2020, was marked by an “Out Reach Program” which was conducted at Govt Girl’s Tribal Welfare Residential School, Golagamudi, S.P.S.R Nellore District. It was celebrated from 4th March 2020 to 7thMarch 2020 in the morning hours (9.30 A.M to 12.00 PM), in the school premises. It comprised of Dental Health Education, Dental Health Screening & Treatment, Medical Health Screening, Role Plays and Competitions for the 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th class students. It ended with a valedictory function held on the morning of 7th March 2020. Around 132 students participated in the program. On 4th March 2020 ‘Dental Health Education’ was taught which comprised of explaining the Orofacial structures and Dentition in brief, Maintenance of Oral hygiene, Clinical presentation of Paediatric Dental Diseases like Dental Caries, Ulcers, Dental trauma, Malocclusion, etc using Flip Charts, Classroom teaching & Flash Cards. On 5th March 2020 competitions like drawing, singing, elocution and Question Answer round (based on the topics taught during dental education) were conducted. Also the interns enacted role plays on clinical manifestation of dental diseases, importance of maintaining oral hygiene and seeking dental treatment promptly. Prizes for the question & answer round and wafers were distributed. On 6th March 2020, 106 students were screened for Dental, Medical and Dermatological Problems and referral cards were distributed. About 10 students were provided with dental treatments in the mobile dental van, like GIC restorations, ZoE dressings for deep carious lesions, extraction of retained and mobile deciduous teeth, oral prophylaxis followed by oral hygiene instructions. The valedictory function was held on 7th March 2020. Dr.Vandana Raghunath, WEC Chairperson, NDCH, spoke about the importance of “Gender equality”, and explained about the “# Each for equal” theme of IWD. The students were also advised about dental health care and personality development. A brief note on the camps (7) conducted with a total of 265 students being screened and 38 students treated in their campus and 60 students treated at NDCH were also mentioned. The staff members of Pedodontics dept and Public Health dept were thanked for rendering their services. It was also conveyed that dental screening camps and sending vans once in two weeks for the children to get treated at NDCH & NMCH would continue on a regular basis as the school was adopted under WEC, NDCH. Principal Mr.Surendra and all the school staff (both the teaching & non-teaching) were also thanked for their co-operation rendered throughout the program and during camps. The school Principal also spoke about the importance of Women’s Day and thanked NDCH Principal & Management of Narayana Educational Institutions, for rendering dental services free for the children. Other Staff members like Dr.Lavanya, Prof & Head, Cons & Endodontics and Dr.Krishna Kumar, Prof & Head of Public Health department also spoke on the occasion. Dr.Ajay Reginald, Principal, NDCH also participated in the celebrations and interacted with the children and school staff. Prizes were given away for the first three winners of the competitions along with some consolation prizes. Certificates were awarded to the interns (06) acknowledging their help for the “Women’s Week Celebrations”. A memento marking the event along with a gift was presented to the Principal. The ANMs, Warden and all the teaching and non-teaching school staff members were also presented with gifts. Cake cutting event was followed by its distribution along with small gifts (sponsored by NDCH & also by the Interns Batch (2019-2020) and biscuits (sponsored by the Interns Batch 2019-2020, NDCH) to all the students.
The members of WEC, NDCH, Dr.Saroja, DrKiranmayi & Dr.Swapna and other Women staff volunteered in organizing the event and participated with all enthusiasm. The entire program was thus planned and executed successfully under the guidance of Dr.Saroja, Dept of Prosthodontics, Dr.Krishna Kumar, Prof & Head of PHD, 06 interns (Neeraja, Sandhya Rani, Chaturya, Manvitha, Ruchitha and Sheema) and Dr.Vandana Raghunath, WEC Chairperson, Prof & Head OMFP, NDCH.
Further, on 7th March 2019 on the eve of International Women’s Day, the non-teaching staff and NDCH organized cake cutting celebration followed by few speeches.
